Asperger's Syndrome - SEVİNÇ ÇİSEM YÜKSEL

Asperger syndrome is an autistic disorder most notable for the often great discrepancy between the intellectual and social abilities of those who have it.

Children diagnosed with Asperger syndrome present a special challenge in the education however they don’t need to be separated from their peers. With the help of inclusive education systems, we can teach them with the others without labelling them. If they don’t feel that they are different, they can easily adapt into the environment. We just need them to provide a spesific daily routine to make them still. Children who has that disease can easily be angry, upset or cheerful. Their emotions shift very frequently and very quickly. So it is important to make them feel comfortable in the classroom.

Some other children may try to bully them. As a future teachers, our first aim to protect them from any possible bad situations. They need to be taken care by the teachers so it is important to take care of them individually. We have to observe them and if something is necessary, we have to supply it immediately to avoid any misfortune.

Some parents prefer to send their children to the special schools to educate them while there is an option for children to have an ordinary education with the other children. Parents also should be informed about how it can be good and beneficial for their children to have the same education which the others have.

As a conclusion, this disease doesn’t make children uneducable. With the help the correct approaches, we can teach them like we do to teach the others. It is the fact that there is no cure to get rid of that disease but it is possible to live with that in a good way if we know how to deal with it. And also it is important to share our knowledge with the others to have more options and create better ways to deal with it.
